Abstract: Introduction Peripheral serotonin is an important regulator of many aspects of lactation. Administration of the serotonin precursor, 5‐hydroxytryptophan (5‐HTP), has been shown to alter some aspects of energy metabolism and endocrine signals in dairy cattle.
