Effects of a 12 week self‐managed stretching program among Korean–Chinese female migrant workers in Korea: A randomized trial

Abstract: The 12 week, self-managed, community-based, stretching exercise program was effective to increase flexibility. The standard stretching intervention without any enhancements may be a more cost-effective way to increase flexibility. Longitudinal studies, however, are needed to see if the long-term effects are greater in the enhanced intervention for the migrant worker population.

“…To the authors' knowledge, this is the first study to investigate the effects of a 6 month, self‐managed stretching exercise program on the musculoskeletal health status among migrant workers. As reported in the authors' earlier publication (Lee et al , ), a 6 min stretching program for the KC migrant women did not show a significant improvement in musculoskeletal symptoms during the adoption phase (weeks 1–12). In the current analysis, however, the stretching exercise showed a positive benefit on the musculoskeletal symptoms among the KC female migrant workers when it was continually carried out for 6 months.…”

“…The IMCHB hypothesizes that key determinants of client–provider interactions, such as knowledge, self‐efficacy, and social support, increase stretching adherence and subsequently improve health status outcomes, such as physical health outcomes (musculoskeletal fitness, musculoskeletal symptoms) and mental health outcomes (acculturative stress). The study design is described in detail elsewhere (Lee et al , ).…”

“…18 Em trabalhadores coreanos, um programa de GL realizado durante 12 semanas foi efetivo na melhora da flexibilidade; porém, não demonstrou resultados satisfatórios para força muscular. 19 A tabela 2 compara os indicadores de saúde nos momentos pré e pós-teste. Observam-se, após a intervenção com a ginástica laboral, alterações significativas na CC (p=0,014), RCQ, manguito rotador -ombro direito (p<0,001) e ombro esquerdo (p=0,004).…”
