Effects of aerobic exercise on lipids and lipoproteins

Abstract: Dyslipidemia is the risk of cardiovascular disease, and their relationship is clear. Lowering serum cholesterol can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. At present, the main treatment is taking medicine, however, drug treatment has its limitations. Exercise not only has a positive effect on individuals with dyslipidemia, but can also help improve lipids profile. This review is intending to provide information on the effects of exercise training on both tranditional lipids, for example, low-density lipopr… Show more

“…Furthermore, insulin was also inversely correlated to FFM in adolescents of Group C, clearly underlining the impact of this hormonal parameter on body composition in relation to the level of PA. Controversial data has been reported regarding the association between PA and lipid profile in a young population [55][56][57][58]. In agreement with previous studies [59,60], we found a lipid profile marker which consisted of lower LDL levels and higher HDL concentrations in Group C as compared with Group A, whereas TG levels were unmodified among groups.…”

“…The cardiovascular benefits of exercise have been frequently attributed to the reduction of many classical cardiovascular risk factors, one of which is blood lipids improvement [27,30]. Wang Y et al summarized the effects of exercise training on both traditional lipids, for example, LDL, HDL, triglycerides and new lipids and lipoproteins such as non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and postprandial lipoprotein in a recent review [34]. But we didn't find any change in TC or LDL or HDL level.…”

“…Statin drug therapy has been emphasized in the current US and European guidelines as the primary treatment for LDL reduction, because of strong evidence of safety and efficacy [133]. Exercise is known to improve the blood lipid profile.…”

“…LPL activation could last for 24 hours after only a 1 hour moderate intensity exercise session [137]. Also exercise leads increased TG consumed by muscle tissue and increases LPL which results in more TG hydrolysis [133,137]. Upregulation of increased receptor expression in macrophages results more cholesterol transported to the liver via HDL [138].…”
