“…We previously reported significantly lower cortical [ 123 I]R91150 bindings ratios in recent MDMA users when compared with control subjects (Reneman et al 2000a). In rats, fenfluramine, a potent 5-HT releaser, has been found to cause reductions in 5-HT 2 receptors (Koshikawa et al 1985). These findings were attributed to high levels of synaptic 5-HT.…”

“…Previous studies suggest that while 5-HT-induced wet-dog shakes are inhibited in a dose-related manner by 5-HT2 receptor antagonists such as ketanserin and pirenpirone (Yap & Taylor, 1983;Koshikawa et al, 1985) and are produced by the systemic administration of the 5-HT2 receptor agonist * Li 1 -(2,5 -dimethyl -4 -iodophenyl) -2 -aminopropane (Heaton et al, 1988), the other components of the 5-HT-syndrome are largely mediated by 5-HT1-like receptors (Lucki et al, 1984;Goodwin & Green, 1985;Tricklebank et al, 1985;Kennett & Curzon, 1988). For this reason the presence of another 5-HT2 receptor-mediated behaviour, namely the back muscle contractions described in the present study, provides a very useful tool to investigate further the neuropharmacology of spinal 5-HT.…”

“…or 8-OH-DPAT (5 mg kg -1 s.c.). Three cages (each 563820 cm) of three rats were observed in each 3-h experimental session, with each cage being observed for 5 min of every 15 min (Koshikawa et al 1985). FPT, evoked by 8-OH-DPAT or 5-HTP, was assessed for each 5-min period as follows: 0 = absent, 1 = present once, 2 = present several times, 3 = present frequently, 4 = present continuously (Dickinson and Curzon 1983) immediately after giving 5-, 8-OH-DPAT.…”
