Effects of application terms of three soil active herbicides on herbicide efficacy and reproductive ability for weeds in maize

Abstract: Production of maize (Zea mays) is increasing globally and this trend is evident throughout the Central Europe. We may expect this trend to continue in the future (Tatsumi et al. 2011). At the present time, maize is the most significant crop in the world. Weed management had a major affect on the success of maize growth, because the competition ability of maize is relative low.The critical weed-free period for maize is between the 3 rd and the 6 th weeks after emergence (Zimdahl 2004). Weed competition is manif… Show more

“…Th e tank mixture of mesotrione with s-metolachlor and mesotrione with terbuthylazine were also eff ective. All of the above mentioned active ingredients are well known in corn weed management, and they are still being tested in fi eld experiments for diff erent application methods (James et al 2006;Whaley et al 2009;Skrzypczak et al 2011;Andr et al 2014;Radivojevic et al 2014). For example, meso trione, chemically derived from a natural phytotoxin obtained from the Callistemon citrinus plant, is eff ective for preand post-emergence control of weeds in corn.…”

“…Increasing maize production is noticeable worldwide, even across Central Europe [1]. Given the fact that maize is considered as a wide-row crop [2] and its competitiveness is rather low, weed management is highly recommended [3]. In general, plenty types of weed infestation and different levels of losses caused by weeds have been reported by many authors [4,5].…”

“…The application of pre-emergence herbicides is an established method to control the infestation of weeds in a maize and bean mixture [25,27]. The active ingredients Dimethenamid-P and Pendimethalin effectively control a wide range of annual grass and annual broad-leaved weeds during an early sensitive stage of maize development [42][43][44][45]. Nevertheless, when the herbicide activity declines, new-emerging weeds occur and postemergence herbicides must be applied for optimal weed control as they can also be competitive.…”
