Effects of aromatic compounds on movement activity of Pyrrhocoris apterus in the conditions of a laboratory experiment

Abstract: In the conditions of an urban environment, insects, including Pyrrhocoris apterus (Linnaeus, 1758) (Hemiptera, Pyrrhocoridae), are subject to dozens of volatiles: solvents, food flavorings, cosmetic products. For firebugs, some attract them, some scare them off, and to some they are indifferent. In this article, in the conditions of laboratory experiment, we evaluated the influence of chemical substances on rates of movement of firebugs. Under the influence of the substances we studied, there occurred no signi… Show more

“…Uncontrolled environmental pollution with organic compounds of various compositions and their impacts on living organisms require more research [52,53]. There is a need for adequate assessment of how various chemical compounds coming from various technogenic sources into the environment affect valuable agricultural and forest species of invertebrates, including staphylinids [54,55]. Our experimental study of the effects of organic pollutants on the common species of staphylinids in complex with other studies allows a more detailed prediction of possible implications of a broad spread of pollutants in the environment and expansion of the knowledge of the chemoecology of insects.…”

“…Laboratory stand. To determine locmotor activity of mites, we used a polypropylene (PP) cylinder (44 cm in diameter, 24 cm in height) (Titov & Brygadyrenko, 2021;Nehrii & Brygadyrenko, 2022). On the bed of the cylinder, we put the experimental field, where grey circles were drawn around the center every 10 mm (Fig.…”

“…Our studies indicate that agriculturally significant insects can react to chemical compounds and their mixture in fooder (Brygadyrenko & Nazimov 2015;Martynov et al, 2019aMartynov et al, , 2019b, as well as chemically synthesized substances introduced to their environment (Titov & Brygadyrenko, 2021). Influence of household chemicals to which insects inside or near households are daily subjected has been studied fragmentarilly (Nehrii & Brygadyrenko, 2022), and such studies have not been conducted on Turkestan cockroach until now. Effects of the studied substances and their mixtures on insects can be direct and indirect, for example through parasitic organisms (Boyko & Brygadyrenko, 2017.…”
