Effects of avocado seed extract in different trisextenders on sperm and oxidative stress indices of vitrified goat spermatozoa

Abstract: Effects of avocado seed extract (ASE) in different tris-extenders on sperm and seminal oxidative stress indices of vitrified spermatozoa of West African Dwarf (WAD) goats during vitrification were assessed. Semen samples were diluted with varying levels (0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mL/100 mL of diluent) of ASE in tris citric acid (TCA), tris sodium phosphate (TSP) and tris sodium citrate (TSC) extenders while a tris-extender without citric acid, sodium phosphate and sodium citrate served as control. Diluted semen samp… Show more

“…The property of phenolic content to remove oxidative radicals, that is vital for oxidative stress homeostasis, is mainly responsible for their anti‐inflammatory properties (Murakami et al, 2015; Tremocoldi et al, 2018). According to Olamitibo et al (2016), phenolic compounds in avocado seeds can protect spermatozoids in goat sperm from the damaging effects of free radicals during sperm cryopreservation. Avocado pulp extract significantly protected rats' thyroid glands from toxicity caused by chlorpyrifos and carbon tetrachloride (Hamouda et al, 2016; Kassab & El‐Aasr, 2018).…”

“…The presence of the above mentioned molecules confers to avocado seeds, many pharmacological properties (estrogenic, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory etc.) [11,30,31]. Due to antioxidant properties of the avocado seed powder, it can be used to fight oxidative stress, thus preventing free radical phenomena, harmful to reproduction and therefore improve production performance in cavies.…”
