“…Ozgundondu and Metin also reported that PMR and music could reduce the stress of nurses working in the critical care units, anesthesia, and internal wards of hospitals [ 32 ]. As stated by Jourabchi et al, Benson's Relaxation Technique was an effective strategy for decreasing work-related stress in midwives [ 34 ]. The evidence further showed that PMR alleviated stress and anxiety in nursing students [ 35 ] and some patients [ 32 , 34 ].…”

“…One explanation of this reduction could be due to BRT turning off the fightor-flight response, and reducing the level of neurotransmitters, which brought the body back to a pre-stress state. This, in turn, reduced muscle tension and minimized negative impacts, such as fatigue (40). Consistently, another study compared the effects of reflexology and relaxation on pain in women suffering from MS and showed a significant decrease in pain 3 months following the intervention (41).…”

“…One more recent study demonstrated progressive muscle relaxation as an auxiliary technique to decrease anxiety and increase sleep quality in COVID-19 patients (36). Some other researchers have also claimed that relaxation techniques diminished sleep disturbance (12,(37)(38)(39)(40)(41) and the use of sleep medication (39,42,43).…”

“…The Benson relaxation technique, which was introduced by Herbert Benson in the 1970s, is recognized as a non-pharmacological method for reducing occupational stress and anxiety in midwives and nurses (12,13). Also, it has been shown to improve nurses' fatigue (14).…”
