Effects of Biostimulants in Horticulture, with Emphasis on Ornamental Plant Production

Abstract: The biostimulant segment is becoming increasingly important worldwide. One of the reasons for this is that fewer plant protection products are placed on the market in the European Union, and environmental sustainability also plays an important role in their use. Biostimulants are often used in several horticultural sectors, including ornamentals, to strengthen plants, achieve commercial standards, produce quality goods, increase plant vitality, and aid harvesting. This paper presents the latest results of the … Show more

“…Despite the photosynthetic nature of these bacterial genera, they are recognised as rhizosphere-associated, a trait observed in numerous other enriched bacterial taxa within the plantamendment combination, such as Chitinophagaceae, Rhizobiaceae, Burkholderiaceae, Sphingobacteriaceae, Saccharimonadales, Rhodanbacteraceae and Sphingomonadaceae. “…Azotobacter spp. can also increase the beneficial activities of other biofertilizers if used in consortium, as well as being beneficial in the removal of different stresses [ 380 , 381 , 382 ]. It is also recommended that more research take place this topic to show the exact mechanisms of Azotobacter spp., which can ameliorate plant health and obviate the stressors.…”

“…Applications of PHs increased the leaf area and the yield of some fruit trees and other horticultural plants [78][79][80]. In this respect, the available literature data highlight a positive effect of the PHs' application, isolated AAs (proline, tryptophan) or mixtures of AAs (alone or combined with micronutrients) on flowering regulation, fruiting, and fruit quality [81][82][83][84][85][86].…”
