Effects of Combined Application of Biochar and Different Types of Nitrogen Fertilizers on Rapeseed Root Growth and Properties of Purple Soil in Southwest China

Biao Li,
Xiaoqin Tian,
Sai Zhang
et al.

Abstract: To demonstrate the effects of combined application of biochar and different types of nitrogen fertilizers on the growth of plant roots and on purple soil properties such as soil nutrients, soil carbon content and soil respiration, a 206-day greenhouse pot experiment with rapeseed was conducted. Three types of nitrogen fertilizer were used: urea (UR), controlled-release urea (RU), a mixture of 60% urea and 40% controlled-release urea (40% RU), and biochar was added at mass fractions of 0% (C0), 2% (C1) and 4% (… Show more

“…Recently, the amount of BC was found to related with the effects on N effectiveness. The adsorption of N and potassium in crops increased along with the increasing appliaction rates of BC [10] Meanwhile, it has also been shown that BC applied alone has no signi cant effect on dry matter accumulation in both aboveground and belowground maize [11] . That means more further experiments needed to detect the nature relationship between BC and N [12] .…”

“…In the case of mixed amendments, the primary research aim has been to determine the optimal proportions and doses for different crop species in various climatic zones [21][22][23][24][25]. Many publications have also explored combining organic soil amendments with mineral fertilizers, with the main objective being nutrient supplementation [26][27][28][29][30][31][32]. These investigations primarily aimed to determine the impact of soil amendments on chemical properties, but they also addressed physical properties, including soil structure and water-related characteristics, as well as their influence on soil biota.…”
