Effects of compost organic amendments on chemical composition andin vitrodigestibility of alfalfa (Medicago sativaL.)

Abstract: the following fertiliser treatments were compared during the years 2002 and 2003 on alfalfa forage (Medicago sativa L.): compost obtained from the organic fraction of the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW); olive pomace compost (OPC); mineral fertiliser (Min). All the treatments allowed a distribution of 75kg ha -1 of P 2 O 5 . three cuttings occurred: at 168, 206 and 351 days after compost application (DAA) in 2002; 119, 152 and 320 DAA in 2003. Cumulative biomass and dry matter yields were measured during each exp… Show more

“…This is consistent with the assertions of other authors [2;3]. Lestingi et al [9] also mention the risk for bacterial activity caused by agricultural activities. In their previous study [10] they also highlighted the impact on the yield.…”

“…Non‐structural carbohydrate (NSC) was estimated as NSC = 1000 − (CP + ash + EE + aNDFom), where nutrient contents are expressed in g kg −1 DM. In vitro DM (DMD) and true DM (IVTDMD), organic matter (OMD), CP (CPD) and aNDFom (NDFD) digestibilities were determined using the DAISY II system (ANKOM Technology, Macedon, NY, USA) 20. Each sample (4 tillage systems × 3 N levels × 3 replications × 2 years = 72) was weighed (∼0.5 g) in duplicate into ANKOM F57 filter bags in order to obtain, respectively, two replications for DMD and OMD, two for CPD and two for NDFD.…”

“…La fertilización orgánica, es una tecnología tradicional que incrementa la producción de forrajes (Vázquez-Vázquez et al, 2010), debido a que se incorporan varios nutrientes que requieren las plantas (Medina et al, 2015), mejorando la estructura y retención del agua (Travieso et al, 2018) y fertilidad del suelo (Lestingi et al, 2016). Se aumenta el crecimiento de las plantas (Risso 2000) y, en consecuencia, se incrementa el rendimiento de forraje de alfalfa .…”
