“…The fact that the physiological and behavioral alterations following psychosocial stress can be counteracted by the application of antidepressants and sleep deprivation further strengthens the idea that these animal models might be valuable tools in the study of the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of depressive disorders (Fuchs et al, 1996;Koolhaas et al, 1990;Meerlo et al, 1996b).
