Effects of corneal thickness on intraocular pressure measured with three different tonometers

Abstract: For measurements of IOP in normal eyes, the GAT is the tonometer least affected by the CCT, compared with the PNCT and NCT. A PNCT is more likely to be affected by variations in CCT than the GAT.

“…CCT measurement revealed that P2Y 6 KO mice showed thicker CCT at middle age. Many reports have suggested that IOP is positively correlated to CCT (67)(68)(69)(70)(71)(72)(73)(74)(75). Our present data demonstrated that mature adult P2Y 6 KO Figure 6.…”

“…The Schiotz tonometer has some limitations in that the results are dependent on ocular rigidity, corneal thickness, and corneal pathology [22,23]. However, Chiara et al [24] report that the Schiotz tonometer correlates well with Goldmann applanation tonometry, which is the standard.…”

“…Recent research found that corneal resistance to applanation is the main predictive factor for matching the measurements obtained with different tonometers (17) , and the values obtained with TG and TA suffer the same type of variation due to both tonometers being dependent on the same mechanism of IOP measurement (9) . However, because it is a populational and screening study, pachymetry of the cornea was not part of the propaedeutics.…”

“…A limiting factor of the study was the lack of assessment of corneal thickness, since there are differences between the methods dependent on the corneal thickness and curvature (8,9) .
