Effects of cyclo (his–pro) plus zinc on glucose metabolism in genetically diabetic obese mice

Abstract: CZH is effective in decreasing blood glucose concentrations in genetically obese (ob/ob), type 2 diabetic mice. These data support our working hypothesis that CZH may be an important anti-hyperglycaemic agent.

“…Cyclo-Z is the only agent able to increase intracellular IDE. In our studies [77], [78] of Cyclo-Z treatment of genetically T2D G-K rats and obese ob/ob mice, plasma insulin levels decreased, while blood glucose decreased and insulin sensitivity increased. Therefore, we conclude that Cyclo-Z treatment increases cellular IDE and improves insulin sensitivity of diabetic rodents.…”

“…This phenomenon suggests that CHP plus zinc treatment improves insulin sensitivity and plasma insulin levels are low in untreated hyperglycemic rats because prolonged hyperglycemia blocks insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. The similar decrease of plasma insulin levels were also observed in ob/ob mice with zinc treatment [85].…”

“…Additionally, intraventricular administration of CHP has been shown to significantly reduced water intake [115]. We also found decreased water intake in older G-K and S-D rats after ZC treatment [85,86]. Young rats showed no difference in water consumption regardless of ZC addition to drinking water.…”
