Effects of dexmedetomidine on immune function, renal function and inflammatory factors of patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy under general anesthesia

Abstract: The present study was designed to determine the effects of dexmedetomidine on immune function, renal function and inflammatory factors in patients undergoing percutaneous nephrolithotomy under general anesthesia. A total of 177 patients with kidney calculi who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy in The Second Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University were enrolled, in which 91 patients were treated with dexmedetomidine during surgery (research group) and 86 patients were not sedated during surgery (c… Show more

“…Additionally, adjunct analgesic (such as ropivacaine) combined with epidural block is also reported to repress in ammation and improve immune functions in GC surgery [33,34]. Interestingly, the effects of dexmedetomidine on in ammatory cytokines and T lymphocytes are con rmed in patients with kidney calculi [35] or GC surgery [36] without any block. In this study, to our knowledge, we for the rst time investigated the in uences of dexmedetomidine in combination with ropivacaine in TPVB on in ammation and immune functions for GC patients undergoing open gastrectomy.…”

“…Different methods of surgery, such as shockwave lithotripsy, flexible ureteroscopy, conventional/mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), laparoscopic/robotic surgery and open procedures, are the primary treatments for kidney stones 11. PCNL has become the primary method of treating kidney stones thanks to the advancement of medical technology 12. Although PCNL has a high success rate (85~93%), the postoperative complication rate reaches 18% 13 14.…”

“…In particular, some anesthesia procedure or drugs might influence renal function. [6][7][8][9][10][11][12] Thus, an urgent clinical problem is to protect perioperative renal function and to promote early postoperative recovery. Quadratus lumborum block (QLB) is an abdominal truncal block that provides analgesia for abdominal surgery including laparoscopic gastrectomy, cesarean section, laparoscopic colorectal surgery, laparoscopic hepatectomy, and LRS.…”
