Model investigations of wastewater purification were carried out in a medium sand bed with an assisting natural clinoptilolite layer 0.10 or 0.25 m thick. The effectiveness of wastewater purification related to basic qualitative parameters was in accordance with the Polish standards on sewage disposal into grounds and surface water. Medium sand soil bed with the assisting natural clinoptilolite layer 0.25 m thick showed on average the removal efficiency regarding TSS higher by 3.3%, total nitrogen by 29.3%, total phosphorus by 25.9%, reduction efficiency regarding BOD5 by 1.1% and COD by 15.9% than that with the thinner clinoptilolite layer. The investigations confirmed that natural clinoptilolite with the granulation 1-5 mm can be used to enhance the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds from wastewater with the application of infiltration drainage. However, very good effect of the TSS removal from the wastewater in the investigated soil beds can lead to their fast clogging under the infiltration drainage. Septic tanks should be designed in such a way that they retain as much TSS as possible, e.g., multi-chamber tanks instead of one-chamber ones.

Objective. To determine whether short term supplemantation at two levels (1 or 2 g/kg) of clinoptilolite (CLNP) in the colostrum of dairy calves had any effect on total weight gain (TWG) and mean daily gain of weight (mdwg). Materials and methods. A total of 24 clinically healthy calves without diarrhea were assigned in a subset of three major groups of calves were studied: group I (n=8) received colostrum with clnp at the rate of 1/kg started immediately following calving at 12 and 24 hours, for a total of 2 doses. Group II consisted of calves (n=8) receiving colostrum with clnp at the rate of 2/kg within the same interval as the first experimental group. The last group III, which served as control, received solely colostrum. Results. Group had significant effect on weight (kg) of Holstein calves [twg (mean±SE)-control: 12.66±0.349, group I: 14.73±0.414, group II: 14.19±0.468, p<0.01; mdwg (mean±SE)-control: 0.338±0.0155, group I: 0.396±0.0189, group II: 0.397±0.0196, p<0.05]. There was a significant difference observed for twg (p<0.01) and mdwg (p<0.05) among control group and both clnp treatment groups. Conclusions. The results showed that the addition of both levels of clinoptilolite administration via colostrum appeared to enhance twg and mdwg in newborn calves without having any observable adverse effect.Keywords: Calves, clinoptilolite, efficacy, health, weight (Source: CAB thesaurus) RESUMENObjetivo. The treatment of skeletal muscle, which lost its function with damage or trauma with autologous muscle tissue transfer, is a very problematic approach.Hence, it is critical to develop materials that are mimicking muscle tissue mechanical behaviors and allowing cell adhesion. Polyurethanes (PUs) are one of the most common polymers in tissue engineering applications and skeletal muscle regeneration due to their elasticity and mechanical flexibility. Clinoptilolite (CLN) is a hydrated alumina silica crystal based biocompatible material that numerous positive effects on animal and human health. Here, we report the synthesize of flexible membranes based on clinoptilolite (CLN) doped thermoplastıc polyurethane (TPU) nanofiber network to be used in the field of skeletal muscle regeneration. We primarily evaluated their ability to mimic skeletal muscle by determining their mechanical properties and cell adhesion rates. We observe that cell adhesion and proliferation increased with the increase of CLN contribution. Young modulus (E Y ) values of pure TPU, 5 and 10 wt.% CLN-doped TPU fibers are 3.66, 2.37, and 1.85 MPa, respectively. Mechanical elongations at break of pure TPU, 5 and 10 wt.% CLN-doped TPU fibers after 37 C treatment (7th day) are 193.41%, 113.30%, and 197.15%, respectively. With the addition of 5 wt.% CLN, the thermal stability slightly increased compared to the pure TPU and 10 wt.% CLN/TPU. In addition, cytotoxicity studies reveal that CLN/PU membranes are biocompatible, and finally cell adhesion increases proportionally to the increased CLN contribution. The obtained results indicate that the CLN/PU membranes can be used as a skeletal muscle scaffold.
