Effects of dietary lysine restriction on inflammatory responses in piglets

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of lysine restriction on inflammatory responses in piglets. 38 male piglets with similar body weight of 9.62 kg were randomly divided into control group (basal diet) and lysine-restricted group (diet containing 70% lysine of the control diet). The results showed that lysine restriction increased the serum concentration of IgG an IgM. Piglets fed the lysine-restricted diet exhibited overexpression of interleukin-8 (IL-8) in the kidney (P < 0.05) and IL-6 and … Show more

“…These harmful events could be triggered by an immune system less prepared to combat pathogenic agents causing imbalances in the intestinal microbiota, since pigs subjected to Lys deficiency can have decreased immune responses (Li et al, 2007;Liao et al, 2015). This is likely due to impairment of the synthesis of proteins related to the animal inflammatory responses, including serum antibody, inflammatory cytokines, Tlrs system, and ERK1/2 and NF-κB signals (Han et al, 2018). It is also important to consider that the intestinal tissue has a high rate of cell turnover.…”

“…This result also was in line with that of Han et al . [ 48 ], who observed that a deficiency of critical AA decreased the splenic and intestinal expression of cytokine genes. The current findings suggested better humoral and cellular immune response of broiler chickens fed a low-protein diet supplemented with three critical AA (threonine, valine, and tryptophan).…”

“…S4 & Table S1). It is expected that the immune response to HKST results in the transcription of many genes, and studies have shown essential amino acid metabolism to be critical to proper immune system function (Chen et al, 2003;McGaha et al, 2012;Iseri and Klasing 2014;Han et al, 2018).…”
