Effects of Dietary Mixture Enriched in Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Probiotic on Performance, Biochemical Response, Breast Meat Fatty Acids, and Lipid Indices in Broiler Chickens

Abstract: This study evaluated the effects of a dietary mixture based on extruded linseed and pea (ELP; 20:80 w/w) and probiotics (L. acidophilus) on the performance, biochemical responses, breast muscle fatty acids (FA) profile, and lipid indices in broiler chickens. A total of 480 one-day-old Ross 308 broilers were assigned into four groups in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement with two levels of ELP (0% and 30%) at the expense of soybean meal, corn, and vegetable oil and two levels of probiotic (0 and 20 g ton−1 feed). Th… Show more

“…1.0 and 0.5 for AI and TI, respectively [ 66 ]. The AI and TI levels were similar to those found in the breast meat of broilers fed a commercial basal diet [ 67 ]. The present findings can be attributed to the high levels of A. platensis , since previous studies showed no significant effect on such indices in the egg yolk of laying hens feeding a diet with up to 3% of A. platensis [ 68 ], or in the serum of broiler chickens drinking up to 20 g of microalga /L [ 69 ].…”

“…The higher C18:1n9 cis content can enhance the palatability of the meat ( Tang et al, 2021 ). Furthermore, probiotics can modulate the synthesis and oxidation of MUFAs by regulating metabolic enzymes such as fatty acyl-CoA synthetase and enzymes limiting the rate of fatty acid oxidation, thereby altering the composition of UFAs in meat ( Gheorghe et al, 2022 ). In accordance with the findings mentioned earlier, an increase in the relative proportion of MUFAs may result in a decrease in LDL levels in the body.…”

“…Among these additives, different strains of Lactobacillus spp., serving as probiotic bacteria (7)(8)(9), have gained attention. One particular strain, Lactobacillus salivarius (LS), is naturally found in the gastrointestinal tract of various animals, including chickens (10).…”
