Effects of dietary β-mannanase supplementation on the additivity of true metabolizable energy values for broiler diets

Abstract: ObjectiveThis experiment was conducted to determine the effects of dietary β-mannanase on the additivity of true metabolizable energy (TME) and nitrogen-corrected true metabolizable energy (TMEn) for broiler diets.MethodsA total of 144 21-day-old broilers were randomly allotted to 12 dietary treatments with 6 replicates. Five treatments consisted of 5 ingredients of corn, wheat, soybean meal, corn distillers dried grains with solubles, or corn gluten meal. One mixed diet containing 200 g/kg of those 5 ingredie… Show more

“…With growing interest in the importance of the gut microbiota, probiotics that contain beneficial bacteria or yeast have also been tried in the domestic animal industry. A large number of field studies have shown the positive effect of probiotics on growth performance or the immune system [5,6]. In particular, Bacillus subtilis, a gram-positive bacterium, is a non-pathogenic species that has also been used as a probiotic for both animals and humans as feed [7] or health food [8], respectively.…”

“…Beta-mannan or β-galactomannan is found in a variety of feed ingredients, including soybean meal, which is one of the primary ingredients used in poultry diets. Beta-mannan inhibits animal performance, compromising weight gain and FCR ( Anderson and Warnick, 1964 ; Latham et al, 2018 ; Lee et al, 2018 ). This also holds true for glucose and water absorption ( Rainbird et Al, 1984 ).…”

“…in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT; Hussain et al, 2012;Lee et al, 2018). Accordingly, some studies have indicated that dietary β-mannanase improves growth performance of broiler chickens (Jackson et al, 2004;Cho and Kim, 2013), whereas other studies showed no beneficial effects (Ouhida et al, 2002).…”
