Effects of dispersal on competitive coexistence in a two‐patch competition model

Abstract: In this paper, we incorporate the dispersal of one species between two patches into a two-species competition model. The dispersal process is assumed to involve time delay and population loss. We show that the dispersal rate and the loss during the dispersal jointly affect the stability and instability of model equilibria and induce the phenomena of multi-stability and transient coexistence of both competing species in both patches.
