Effects of enhanced UV-B radiation on the diversity and activity of soil microorganism of alpine meadow ecosystem in Qinghai–Tibet Plateau

Abstract: The effects of enhanced UV-B radiation on abundance, community composition and the total microbial activity of soil bacteria in alpine meadow ecosystem of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau were investigated. Traditional counting and 16S rRNA gene sequencing were used to investigate the culturable bacteria and their composition in soil, meanwhile the total microbial activity was measured by microcalorimetry. The population of soil culturable bacteria was slightly reduced with the enhanced UV-B radiation in both of the two … Show more

“…Earlier studies suggested that higher P max value, lower t max value, and higher k value were good indicators of high microbial activity [33]; meanwhile, FDA hydrolysis and urease activities are also related with soil microbial activity. Both enzyme activity and microcalorimetric analyses showed that S2 and S4 shared relatively higher microbial activity than others, although these two samples also contained relatively higher concentrations of total and available HMs.…”

“…Soil enzyme activity is a sensitive indicator of ecosystem function, which can indicate changes occurring in the soil and reflect the trends and nature of biogeochemical cycles (Mencel et al, 2022). Microorganisms are closely associated with soil quality, circulation of substances and energy, and improving vegetation growth (Niu et al, 2014; Wang & Wang, 2019). Soil enzyme activity and microbial diversity are more sensitive to environmental changes than soil physical properties (Mencel et al, 2022).…”

“…Radiation as a primary energy source not only supports phototrophic microorganisms but also, as an environmental stressor, causes clear selection pressure [ 85 , 86 ]. Previous studies have also shown that radiation impacts community structure in natural ecosystems, such as the ocean [ 87 ] and meadows [ 88 ]. Indeed, RDA revealed that TP samples were more related to radiation (Fig.…”
