Effects of Fragrance-Loaded Mesoporous Silica Nanocolumns on Central Nervous System

Abstract: Fragrances have rapid effect on our central nervous system, such as making the spirit of relaxation, relieving tensions and refreshing ourselves. However, the release of fragrances is not stable. Here, we added photo-driven mesoporous silica nanocolumns loaded with sandela 803 (MS-C@S803) into wallpaper to obtain fragrant wallpaper (MS-C-W@S803). We then analysed the effects of MS-C-W@S803 and pure sandela 803 treated wallpaper (W@S803) on the CNS of mice and explored the internal mechanism of these effects. B… Show more

“…The content of dopamine (DOPA), acetylcholine (ACH) glutamic acid (Glu), and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain were detected as representative neurotransmitters by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). The processing method and testing conditions referred to the previous work of our laboratory [ 51 ]. The expression level of cortisol and corticosterone in serum was also detected by LC-MS.…”

“…Over the last decade, the development of avor and fragrance nanocapsules has drawn extensive attention in academia and industry. [9][10][11][12][13] In this regard, porous silica-based materials are particularly attractive as a matrix for encapsulation of fragrant molecules, [14][15][16][17][18][19] because they offer inherent advantages over the commonly used polymers, such as high mechanical resistance, excellent biocompatibility, and great loading capacity. 14 For example, Zhu et al employed mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) modied with polyelectrolytes to enclose hydrophilic perfume, which improved the loading content of fragrance and long-lasting effects.…”

“…Recently, Zhang's group developed azobenzene-modied silica nanorods as a photoresponsive carrier for fragrance delivery, where the aroma release was tuned by the cis-trans isomerization of the azo linkage induced by UV irradiation. 19 Polydopamine (PDA) is a mimic of the specialized adhesive foot protein Mefp-5 secreted from mussels, which has been proven to be capable of rmly attaching to most organic and inorganic variant substances, including polymers, metals, oxides, and ceramics. 20,21 The melanin-like polymer is also a novel photothermal agent in clinical therapy that can efficiently absorb and transfer optical energy into heat.…”

“…Besides, the contents of dopamine (DOPA), acetylcholine (Ach), and γaminobutyric acid (GABA) were detected via HPLC−mass spectrometry (MS) to explore the mechanism of moderating effects on the central nervous system. 1 Statistical Analysis. All data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation (SD) unless otherwise indicated.…”

“…Aromatherapy is widely used in the regulation of the central nervous system, which has been traced back to thousands of years. Plenty of fragrances play roles in antianxiety, antidepression, and stress-lowering through inhalation. Nevertheless, free fragrances have some intrinsic defects. Fragrant molecules release rapidly because of their strong volatility, which shortens their useful lives and brings side effects to us in the heavy-scented condition. , Besides, traditional fragrant products are inconvenient, difficult to use, or just do not fit into people’s lives.…”
