Effects of glycine–metal compounds on Ascaridia galli-infected chickens expressed by a kinetic model

Abstract: The biogenic elements zinc, manganese and cobalt are essential for metabolic processes in animals. Compounds of nGly.Me2+A. mH2O (Me2+=Zn2+, Mn2+, Co2+; A=Cl(-), SO4(2-), n=1, 2; m=2, 5), as supplements in the diet, were used separately on different experimental groups of male Hisex chickens to correct the mineral deficiency caused by Ascaridia galli infections. An amelioration of body weight gain, reduction of mortality and restoration of trace element levels were estimated in infected chickens. A mathematica… Show more

“…But Se supplementation improves the immunity response of the host and for this reason we should expect a greater nematode reduction in group 4. The present value of n is almost twice higher than n in our previous studies with Leghorn (Hisex breed) chickens (Gabrashanska et al, , 2004a. The enhanced concentration of Se in ascaridiae may be due to the compounds in their organism, which activate some enzyme systems during oxidation -reduction processes, especially glutathione peroxidase containing Se in its active centre.…”

“…In our previous studies (Gabrashanska et al , 2004, in which the same doses of 1,450 embryonated A. galli eggs were used, a repeated value of m=0.026 day -1 was obtained using the mathematical model, and in the case of infection with 450 embryonated A. galli eggs (Gabrashanska et al 1999a), a value of m=0.0167 day -1 was calculated. The difference between the values of the kinetic parameter m is likely to be due to the different degrees of infection: a higher infection stimulates a stronger immune response.…”

“…Glycine based metal(II) salts with cobalt, zinc, and manganese show positive effects in correcting mineral deficiency in animals . The iron(II) based salt is used as a therapeutic agent to prevent or treat iron deficiency anaemia in infants, or in lactating and pregnant women.…”
