Effects of goal orientation on environment management in technology-based physics learning

Abstract: The purpose of the current study is to propose and examine a comprehensive model that uses motivational and self-regulated variables to explain factors affecting environment management in technology-based physics learning among Chinese secondary school students. Data were collected from 726 grade-eight secondary school students in Southeast China, who were learning physics. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the relationships among students’ goal orientations, environment management, and time man… Show more

“…Tadese et al (2022) define time and study environment management as students' ability to manage when, where, and for how long they engage in the activities required to attain their academic goals. The management of the study environment is critical for completing learning activities and accomplishing learning goals, as noted by Yang et al (2023). According to Chen (2009), only time and work environment management predicted laboratory assignment scores, with the computer laboratory serving as the learning environment.…”

“…In contrast, in offline learning environments, students may acquiesce to crowded conditions as the norm, thereby exerting less effort towards creating an optimal learning atmosphere. Such overcrowded conditions invariably impede learning efficiency (Yang et al, 2023). Mitigating social distractions, such as requesting peers to maintain silence, is imperative for curating an ideal learning environment (Wolters, 2003).…”

“…Conversely, online learning environments present challenges in maintaining persistence, with students often succumbing to distractions such as social media, gaming, and messaging applications, thereby diluting their focus on academic pursuits. In such scenarios, exercising self-control becomes paramount to mitigate distractions and maintain focus on learning objectives (Yang et al, 2023). Moreover, cultivating intrinsic motivation to sustain focus on learning emerges as a critical factor (Mahmud & German, 2021), fostering a sense of commitment towards achieving preset learning goals (Özdal et al, 2022).…”
