Despite the high incidence of short stature and growth failure in children with cerebral palsy (CP), the growth hormone (GH) axis has not been systematically evaluated in these children. Nutritional factors are considered to be the primary cause of poor growth in many children with CP (Eddy et al. 1965, Shapiro e f al. , Rempel et al. 1988, Stallings et 01. 1993; however, recent empiric and scientific evidence suggests that neurologic and endocrinologic factors (termed 'non-nutritional factors') may also play a part.
