Effects of heat-treatment on the spectroscopic and electrochemical properties of a mixed manganese/vanadium oxide film prepared by electrodeposition

Abstract: Thin films of mixed manganese (mainly 4+) and vanadium (5+) oxides deposited electrochemically on a platinum substrate have been heat-treated under vacuum at various temperatures between 25 and 400°C. Electron spin resonance and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy revealed that the reductive formation of Mn 2+ occurs at 300°C only in the presence of vanadium within the film. This phenomenon can be regarded as a result of electron transfer from V 4+ ions generated thermally to neighboring Mn sites. Voltammetric re… Show more

“…In general, the binding energies of both 642 eV of Mn2P 3/2 and 654 eV of Mn2P 1/2 correspond to the Mn (IV) chemical state in the samples [38,39]. For samples MnO 2 -LDH and MnO 2 -LDH (300), the XPS spectra are similar to each other, and the binding energies of Mn2P 3/2 are found at 642.2 and 642.3 eV, respectively, which corresponds to the BE values of Mn (IV) chemical state in the samples (Fig.…”

“…4 In the former category, MnO x without any doping have been directly used as electrode materials, including MnO, MnO 2 , Mn 2 O 3 , Mn 3 O 4 . The materials used to dope MnO x are mainly in three cases: carbon materials such as carbon black, acetylene black, CNTs and exfoliated graphite; 12-14 metal oxides including oxides of Ni, Ru, Cu, Fe, Co, Mo and Ag; 15,16 and conducting polymers e.g. Therefore, various hybrid composites of MnO x have been synthesized to overcome this shortage.…”

“…It was found in the literature that the incorporation of Ni [28,29], Pb [28], Mo [30], and V [31] oxides could enhance the specific capacitance of the Mn oxide. Nevertheless, the effects of Co oxide addition were not extensively studied [29,[32][33][34], and the experimental results from different research groups varied significantly.…”
