“…Motivation is closely related to emotions because it reflects the extent to which an individual is prepared to act physically and mentally in a focused manner (Borod, 2000). A motivated person is inspired to perform specific actions, while a demotivated person lacks intentions to participate (Suen et al , 2022). For this reason, in the work context of an organisation, employees are usually aware that actions such as turning off unnecessary electrical equipment, using stairs instead of lifts or printing on both sides of the paper can help protect the environment, but on many occasions they decide to not put these actions into practice (Farrukh et al , 2022), which may be due to a lack of intrinsic or extrinsic motivation.…”

Extrinsic motivation can assume that individuals act to obtain a reward influenced by a power relationship (Deci et al , 2017), while intrinsic motivation implies that individuals act for the pleasure of the activity or because they consider that the action to perform is relevant and valuable (Suen et al , 2022). In this sense, both motivations are valid to promote pro-environmental behaviours.…”

A meta-analysis of the research work of Churchill et al (1985) and Verbeke, Dietz and Verwaal (2011) highlighted three broad categories of individual motivations that are imperative within the context of sales performance, namely cognitive choice, goal orientation, and work engagement.…”
