“…Therefore, one of the possibilities of indirect effect of Aroclor 1254 is oxidative stress which may alter the activity of membrane bound ion dependent ATPases by producing free radicals. It may also be possible that PCBs accumulated in the intracellular space and alter the activity of membrane bound ion-dependent ATPases which altered the membrane permeability [21][22][23][24].…”

“…The fact that, the current contributed by N a+ is of unexpectedly of the outward type, could be explained hypothesizing that the Na + current activates a pumping system that pumps out a quantity of current significantly larger than the inward current produced by the ionic channels. Pumps sensitive to local ionic changes of concentrations have been largely described [31] and complex transport systems have been also identified in a cell line similar to ours [32][33][34][35]. However, these results are preliminary and, of course, need of further confirmations to be supported.…”

“…ATPases are the membrane-bound enzymes that are mainly involved in the regulation of the ions and metabolites across the plasma membrane in order to maintain the normal physiological and biochemical functions of cells. 43 They require thiol groups and phospholipids to maintain their structure and function. 44 Any alterations in membrane lipids lead to changes in membrane uidity, which in turn, disturbs the membrane- bound enzyme activities, including total ATPases, Mg 2+ ATPase, Ca 2+ ATPase, and Na + K + ATPase and cellular functions.…”
