“…Low levels of GSH may lead to an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants in lung tissue, enhancing inflammatory responses and worsening lung damage. Glutathione levels were elevated in this study, which is different from our previous findings 5 . We speculate that the pattern and duration of simulated lunar dust exposure may have been different in the studies, causing this discrepancy.…”

“…Sun et al exposed rats to two doses of lunar dust simulant by tracheal instillation, and measured related immune and oxidative indicators in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) of rats. The results confirmed that under the effect of simulated lunar dust, inflammation, oxidative stress and immune response promote each other, causing pulmonary vascular endothelial cell damage and lung inflammation, and inducing lung injury 4–6 . However, the pathogenesis of lung injury induced by simulated lunar dust has not been clearly elucidated.…”

“…Interleukin 6 (IL-6) and TNF-α are two pro-inflammatory cytokines that are increased in in vitro studies with lunar dust simulant (LDS), which can lead to chronic inflammation [45]. TNF-α is produced by the lungs epithelial cells in the presence of silica nanoparticles [46] or in response to exposure to smoke particles [47].…”
