Effects of metalloprotease ADAMTS12 on cervical cancer cell phenotype and its potential mechanism

Ruanmin Zou,
Ruihong Gu,
Xinyu Tu
et al.

Abstract: ADAMTS12 is a gene widely expressed in human tissues. We studied the expression level of ADAMTS12 in cervical cancer tissue and its relationship with clinicopathological features. We also explored the function of ADAMTS12 in cervical cancer cells and its underlying mechanisms. We found the higher expression level of ADAMTS12 in cancer tissues, which was associated with the worse overall survival rate. The immunofluorescence assay showed that the cytoplasm of cervical cancer cells is the main expression site of… Show more

“…According to research conducted on the African continent, this anomaly ranks as the fourth most common fatal form of genotoxic cancer. To be more specific, Malawi has a mortality rate of 51,5/100,000, with an age-specific mortality rate [3]. Additionally, other results show that each year, 528,000 cases of uterine cancer in women are diagnosed globally, with 200,000 cases of them dying from the disease [4].…”

“…The molecular mechanisms underpinning this have not been elucidated yet. TGFβ has been identified as an ADAMTS12 interactor in a mass spectrometry screen [ 97 ] , suggesting a similar mechanism to ADAMTS1 and 6 in controlling TGFβ availability. Alternatively, as ADAMTS12 has been linked to the activation of Wnt/β-catenin signalling (see below) and Wnt/β-catenin is critical in EMT regulation [ 98 ] , it is possible to speculate that ADAMTS12 might control EMT through the regulation of Wnt signalling.…”

“…As a result, cells may appear to have more than one nucleus, as illustrated in Figure 1. Figure 1 presents cells containing more than one nucleus due to artifact interference, neutrophils, overlapping cells, and false edges [25], [26], thus, segmentation and detection of single nuclei in Pap smear images require a reliable method. The Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) technique is a method used to analyze the spatial relationships between pixels in images [27].…”
