Effects of Micro-topography on Vegetation Pattern in Dunchon-dong Wetland

Abstract: Depending on the relative elevation, the study site was divided into 4 sectors. The relative areas of sectors in ascending order were 11%, 10%, 18% and 24%, respectively. During investigation period, average water pH was 6.10 (±0.13), electron conductivity was 51.5 (±6.0)㎲/cm, PO4-P, NO3-N and NH4-N concentration were 0.04 (±0.02)mg/L, 0.14 (±0.07)mg/L, and lower than 0.01mg/L, respectively. Water level was very changeable in low-water season because the area of lowest sector was small. This characteristic inc… Show more

“…Micro-topography is of importance in terms of habitat heterogeneity for biodiversity. In wetland ecosystems, water level difference by micro-topography as a physical environment is the most influential factor in determining vegetational components and subsequent biodiversity (Park et al 2013;Nam et al 2014;Byun et al 2017;Kim et al 2017). In our study, water level difference rather than water chemistry appeared to determine the vegetation of the floating mat (Table 1).…”

“…Hydrological regimes including water depth (level), amplitude, and period are influential factors in determining the characteristics of wetland ecosystems (Carter 1986;Aldous et al 2005). In particular, water depth as a physical characteristic is known as a critical driver determining the vegetational components of wetland ecosystems (Nam et al 2014;Byun et al 2017;Hong et al 2018). On the other hand, decreases in water depth may alter the vegetational characteristics of wetland ecosystems and even cause terrestrialization (Lee et al 2002;Byun et al 2008), which means the transformation of wetlands into upland-like fields (Kirschner et al 2001).…”

“…경의 영향을 받는 것으로 알려져 있으며 (Brock et al 2005;Hong and Kim 2013;van der Valk 1981;Vivian-smith 1997;Wetzel and van der Valk 1998), 그 중에서도 수문 조건(flooding regime)은 습지 식물의 생육 에 매우 중요한 영향을 미친다 (Mitsch and Gosselink, 2000;Nam et al, 2014). 자연 환경에서는 수문 주기, 범 람의 빈도 등 다양한 수문 조건들이 식물 군락의 생육에 영 향을 미치며, 특정 시점의 수위보다 누적된 수문 변화에 영 향이 상대적으로 큰 것으로 알려져 있다 (Casanova and Brock, 2000;Cronk and Fennessy, 2001) (Cronk and Fennessy, 2001;Gaudet and Keddy, 1988).…”
