Effects of Na, Cu, Ni and Co Modifications on the Activity and Characteristics of Rh/Al2O3 Catalysts for NO Reduction

Abstract: This study used different metals to modify Rh/ Al 2 O 3 catalysts for NO reduction in a simulated waste incineration flue gas containing 6% O 2 . The characteristics of the modified catalysts were analyzed using BET, TEM and XRD. The results of the experiment reveal that Na addition can significantly affect the properties of Rh/Al 2 O 3 catalysts on the BET surface area and Rh metal dispersion. Furthermore, Na addition was found to significantly enhance the NO conversion of Rh/Al 2 O 3 at 250-350°C. On the con… Show more

“…Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) has been an attractive method for NO reduction because of its high control efficiency, low reaction temperature, and low energy/fuel requirement. Many studies have applied SCR for NO reduction and the feasible catalysts include transition metal catalysts (Cu, Fe, V, Co and Ni) supported by activated carbon [1,2], noble metal catalysts (Pd-Rh) supported on alumina [3] and some combined/modified metal catalysts (Pd-Na and Rh-Na) [4][5][6][7].…”

“…The effects of H 2 O on Rh-catalysts and modified Rh-catalysts in oxygen positive conditions similar to the incineration flue gas have not yet investigated. Our group has previously studied the performance of the Rh/Al 2 O 3 catalyst on NO reduction and its modification by adding Na [5,6]. The characterization of Rh/Al 2 O 3 and Rh-Na/Al 2 O 3 catalysts before and after the reaction have been carried out, including the dispersion of Rh and Na, BET surface area, the oxidation state of Rh, etc.…”
