Effects of nebivolol versus other antihypertensive drugs on the endothelial dysfunction in patients with essential hypertension

Abstract: We aim to determine whether nebivolol has a better effect on endothelial dysfunction compared with other β-blockers or other classes of antihypertensive drugs. Searches of the PubMed, Embase etc. were performed to analyze all the randomized controlled trials using nebivolol to treat essential hypertension. The primary end points included a measurement of peripheral endothelial function by brachial flow mediated vasodilatation (FMD) or forearm blood flow (FBF). A random-effect model was used to perform the meta… Show more

“…For example, some of these drugs (e.g., bisoprolol, nebivolol, etc.) have also been reported to reverse endothelial dysfunction [ 90 , 91 ] with direct potential therapeutic effects in post-ischemic HF [ 92 ] and in hypertension [ 93 , 94 , 95 ].…”

“…In addition, a casual evidence supported the exaggerated power: lowering BP and blood glucose using antihypertensive and antidiabetic medications for weeks does not improve the RHI-measured ED. [33][34][35][36] As to the negative effect of TG, the evidences were far more than robust. TG level was the only factor that significant associated with RHI with exclusion simultaneously for other cardiometabolic risk factors in healthy adults 37 ; acute hypertriglyceridemia in rats was accompanied with the impairment of NO-dependent relaxation in artery, 38 and a short-term use of fenofibrate lowering TG could achieve the efficacy of RHI improvement.…”

“…Furthermore, unlike the present SEM with multiple regression pathways, most previous evaluations were univariate analyses without adequate adjustment, which might lead to in ated effect sizes. In addition, an interesting phenomenon was found: lowering BP and blood glucose using antihypertensive and anti-diabetic medications for weeks does not improve the RHI-measured ED [30][31][32][33] , but a short-term use of feno brate lowering TG could achieve the e cacy [34] . It signi es that high TG might be a sensitive index imposing a greater effect on the endothelium for a certain amount of time.…”
