Effects of neurofeedback versus methylphenidate for the treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis of head-to-head trials

Abstract: Introduction:Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is developmental disorder characterized by inattention and/or hyperactivity/impulsivity. Psychostimulants, including methylphenidate (MPH), are recommended as a first-line pharmacological intervention, whereas neurofeedback (NF) has been proposed as a nonpharmacological option. The comparative effects of MPH and NF need further exploration. We will conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of head-to-head randomized controlled trials (RCTs) compa… Show more

“…Um artigo cita que com o NF há manutenção e aumento da atenção durante 6 meses após o fim do tratamento, porém o uso deste tratamento ainda não foi regulamentado 47 . O NF foi considerado por um artigo como um método eficiente e específico para falta de atenção, impulsividade e de eficácia mediana para hiperatividade 43 . Ademais, uma forma de cooperar para um prognóstico favorável da criança é pelo tratamento adequado de outros comorbidades 2,5 .…”

“…For example, this gap has been investigated by some studies. 20 The results have shown that both treatments are useful in various studies, but no clear superiority has been shown yet. In addition, other studies investigated possible treatments for achieving the least dangerous and fastest possible treatments.…”

“…Those who are interested in these neurofeedback findings can reference these publications. 45,46 TMS has also been proposed as a nonpharmacological treatment for ADHD, but the effects of TMS have not been assessed with resting state EEG. Therefore, this review will focus only on diet and exercise as lifestyle interventions (of which there are only a few studies), in addition to a comprehensive review of the pharmacological treatment studies using EEG.…”
