Abstract:Linear ball guideways (LBGs) have several advantages for the precise positioning control of machine tools. However, the ball-groove contact behaviour leads to poor dynamic compliance, which induces a significant nonlinear behaviour of the guideway and a poor chatter stability. Accordingly, the present study first employs Hertzian contact theory to describe the ball-groove contact behaviour in the LBG of a lathe machine. Two static models are then derived to predict the LBG stiffness under different cutting loa… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
