“…Fabricating holes on hard alloys using a conventional drilling process is time-consuming due to issues related to chip evacuation and drill wear when drilling at high depths. 1 Shaped-tube electrolytic drilling (STED) process, a variant of electrochemical machining (ECM), is a contact-less process (no contact between tool and work sample) and emerges as a solution to evade issues faced in conventional drilling during the fabrication of high aspect-ratio (AR > 5) holes. 2 Being an electrochemical dissolution-based process, the work material removal takes place as a cold machining operation in the STED process; thereby, no issues of thermal stresses on the surface are encountered like in Electrical Discharge Machining or Laser Beam Machining, etc.…”
