“…Histopathological observation revealed destruction of the islets of Langerhans in the diabetic control group as indicated by their smaller sizes when juxtaposed with healthy rats, this is a possible explanation for the reduction in insulin secretion in the diabetic rats, since β‐cells are critical to insulin function. These observations are similar to previous reports (Chaudhary et al, 2016; Ekperikpe et al, 2019; Katisart & Rattana, 2017; Kotha et al, 2019). We also observed abnormalities in the architecture of the β‐cells tissue of the diabetic rats, which was reversed by treatment with T. triandra.…”

“…A marked reduction in total protein, albumin, and globulin levels of diabetic rats was observed, this is indicative of diabetes‐induced liver damage. Hyperglycemic conditions causes the breakdown of structural proteins as a result of heightened conversion of amino acids to glucose (Ekperikpe et al, 2019; Goboza et al, 2019), this in turn negatively affects the synthesis of proteins such as albumin and globulin. We observed that T. triandra caused an increase in protein levels of the treated rats.…”

“…Consumption of such products, with a very distinctive odour and taste, has decreased over the past decades for the benefit of industrial alternatives (Ham, 2017). However, current nutritional and sustainability considerations encourage agronomist, nutritionist and food scientists to pay attention again to this very interesting legume and its transformation (Bari et al ., 2016; Ham, 2017; Abbas et al ., 2018; Lado et al ., 2018); Ekperikpe et al ., 2019). ALBS are nutritionally interesting since they present a balanced composition of protein (39 à 47%), lipids (31 à 40%) and carbohydrates (12 à 16%) (Odunfa, 1985; Ndir et al ., 2000; Esenwah & Ikenebomeh, 2008).…”
