Effects of pig leukocytes on mouse lymphatic leukemia

Abstract

Sensitized leukocytes from live pigs and isolated, perfused pig spleens produced a significant immunotherapeutic effect in AKR mice injected with syngeneic BW 5147 lymphatic leukemia. Therapeutically useful leukocytes were obtained from tumor-sensitized ex vivo perfused pig spleens and from both spleens and peripheral blood of tumor-sensitized live pigs. Therapeutic benefit was achieved only when leukocytes were incubated with tumor cells prior to injection into mice. Normal pig leukocytes were relatively less effective against tumor cells. Normal mice tolerated two injections of lo6 to lo8 pig leukocytes without ill effect.
