Effects of Plasma Exchange Combined with Immunoglobulin Therapy on Consciousness, Immune Function, and Prognosis in Patients with Myasthenia Gravis Crisis: A Prospective Randomized Test

Abstract: Background. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an acquired autoimmune disease. The main clinical features of MG are skeletal muscle fatigue and pathological fatigue, which worsen at night or after fatigue, such as dyspnea, dysphagia, and systemic weakness. Plasma exchange (PE) is often used in patients with acute exacerbation of MG. Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is a collection of immunoglobulins from thousands of donors. IVIG can replace a variety of immunosuppressants or PE. However, the effect of PE or IVIG on p… Show more

“…Using univariate analysis, we found deep vein thrombosis and plasmapheresis during hospitalization to be associated with recurrent infection. While there have been advances in the management of both AChR-antibody positive and MuSK-antibody positive patients, plasmapheresis remains the first-line treatment for MC [ 1 , 8 , 30 32 ]. However, its use increases the risk of thrombotic complications, catheter-related infection, and even systemic infection, especially for those who delayed therapy for more than two days from admission [ 1 , 2 , 30 , 31 , 33 , 34 ].…”

“…Immunoglobulins gathered from thousands of donors make up this collection. IVIg is a substitute for many immunosuppressants [42]. A popular kind of treatment for several autoimmune neuromuscular illnesses is immunoglobulin therapy.…”

“…Thus, autoantibody removal by IA might be combined with SelA to reduce loss of coagulation factors [ 20 ]. Recently, a prospective RCT about the effects of TPE combined with IVIG in sixty patients with MG crisis describes that consciousness, immune function, and prognosis of these patients enhanced and the treatment is safe [ 21 ].…”
