Effects of plastic mulches and high tunnel raspberry production systems on soil physicochemical quality indicators

Abstract: In horticulture, degradable materials are desirable alternatives to plastic films. Our aim was to study the impact of soil plastic mulching on the soil properties in the high tunnel and open field production systems of raspberry. The raised beds were mulched with a polypropylene non-woven and two degradable mulches: polypropylene with a photodegradant and non-woven polylactide. The results indicated that the system of raspberry production, as well as the type of mulching had significant impact on soil organic … Show more

“…Since we found reduced soil moisture under PC, this might explain the contrasting results. On the other hand and in agreement with our results, some studies reported that PC has no impact on SOC or even increase the SOC under PC [16,43,66]. As PC increases aboveground and belowground biomass [66,70,72], it was argued that increased biomass productivity under PC can balance out SOC losses caused by accelerated decomposition [19].…”

“…Despite the soil amendment with pine bark compost, organic C in cultivated soil (10.03 g kg −1 ) was low for optimal blueberry growth (optimal value of 23 g C kg −1 [23]), even lower than the concentration in the CK soil (Table 1). Domagała-Świątkiewicz and Siwek [24] observed an opposite result in soil for raspberry cultivation covered with a…”
