Effects of processing parameters on the surface quality of square section die-less spinning

Abstract: In view of the importance of the surface quality in the application to the square section die-less spinning, the effects of several key parameters which include roller path, half-cone angle, and roller nose radius on the surface quality are investigated. Through the geometric model of residual height, the effect law of the roller path is obtained: the surface quality increases with the decrease of the axial distance of two adjacent slices. Then the finite element model of the square section die-less spinning i… Show more

“…There are many factors that affect the formation of bimetal tube spinning, such as process parameters, tube size, roller size, and material properties. This paper focuses on effect of key process parameters [21] in the spinning compound process including the press amount (ψ), the roller feed rate (v) and spindle revolutions(s) in the bimetal tube spinning forming. Through research, we found that the spindle speed changes have little effect on the deformation of the tube.…”

“…Additionally, attempts to produce axisymmetric and asymmetric components by the spinning process without a mandrel have been reported in some papers. Jia et al (2015) studied the effects of process parameters, including roller feed rate, nose radius, roller path, and half-core angle, on the surface quality of specimen in the square-section die-less spinning process. They also modeled Al 6061 blank as a deformable 3D solid.…”

“…Jia et al [13][14][15][16] used a synchronous spinning method to produce hollow parts with non-circular cross-section on a computer numerical controlled (CNC) spinning machine without using a mandrel. The spinning path for producing non-circular cones was optimized mathematically.…”
