Effects of Salbutamol and Isoprenaline Phenylephrine in Reversible Airways Obstruction

Abstract: S39 examination showed delayed gastric emptying with a lesser curve gastric ulcer. Acid secretory studies showed no response to insulin, indicating a complete vagotomy. At reoperation, eight months after the first operation, a lesser curve gastric ulcer was present but no duodenal ulcer. He is now well after antrectomy.Case 3.-An insulin test was negative three months after vagotomy in a man aged 37. After one year he developed epigastric pain and vomiting and barium meal examination showed a lesser curve gast… Show more

“…Further problems arise when considering what measurements to make and how to express the results. These difficulties have recently been summarized by Alliott, Lang, Rawson, and Leckie (1972).We have developed a simple and reproducible method for assessing new aerosol bronchodilator drugs, which overcomes many of the difficulties and provides useful additional information even with only a small number of patients. We describe here the results obtained with three new sympathomimetic drugs, Th 1165a, salmefamol, and rimiterol, using this method.…”

“…These results are different from those of Phillips et al [11] who, using normal subjects, found significant increases in heart rate after salbutamol 1,000 /<g, the same dose as in the present experiment but not after 1,000/¿g of rimiterol. In contrast, Alliott et al [10] in their study of asthmatic patients, found significant increases in heart rate after salbutamol 600 ug given by aero sol but not after the same drug was given at the lower, 'recommended' dose of 200 ug.…”

“…In addition, there is evidence that spe cificity for /(¡¡-receptors may be lost with in-creasing dosage of inhaled sympathomimet ic bronchodilators [9,10]. Therefore, in our recent investigation of rimiterol (Pulmadit®) -a new selective /J-adrenoreceptor-stimulant aerosol preparation -we ar ranged our trial to compare the effects of rimiterol with those of salbutamol at 'rec ommended' (low) and 5-10 times 'recom mended' (high) dosages.…”

“…Hoi gate and Tattersfield [41] claim to have demonstrat ed bronchial adrenoreceptor resistance in normal subjects but this requires confirma tion in patients. However, there is evidence that 'specificity' for //¡-adrenoreceptors may be lost with higher doses of the newer /?»-selective bronchodilator drugs; Alliott et al [42] , Cooke et al [29], and Phillips et al…”
