Effects of Self-management Program applying Dongsasub Training on Self-efficacy, Self-esteem, Self-management Behavior and Blood Pressure in Older Adults with Hypertension

Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a self-management program applying Dongsasub training based on self-efficacy theory, and to verify the program effectiveness on self-esteem as well as self-efficacy, self-management behaviors, and blood pressure. “…First, the participants in this study appeared to have an average hypertension selfcare score of 57.2. This was relatively low, compared to those of the hypertensive older adults found in other studies, whose mean scores ranged between 60.0 and 68.1 [32,40]. Self-care behavior has been revealed to be an essential component in the management of hypertension to prevent complications [6].…”

“…Gender, duration of hypertension, and functional limitation were included as the covariance of self-care behaviors in the path analytic model. Gender and duration of hypertension are well-recognized determinants of hypertension self-care behaviors [40]. The functional limitation measured by WG-SS was used to define the degree of functional limitation in performing daily activities, and it was also a determinant of the ability to practice self-care [19].…”

“…Others showed bene cial effects of self-e cacy in controlling wide range of diseases like cardiovascular disease [45], rheumatoid arthritis [46], chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) [47] and dialysis patients [48]. In HTN patients also improvement of self-e cacy showed better management of blood pressure in these patients [49].…”
