Effects of sinomenine in LPS‐associated diseases are related to inhibition of LBP, Mac‐1, and L‐selectin levels

Abstract: The aim of the research was to investigate the anti‐endotoxin and anti‐inflammatory effects of Sinomenine, an agent commonly found in Chinese herbal medicines. Endotoxin (i.e., 1 mg lipopolysaccharide (LPS)/kg)) was administered via intraperitoneal (IP) injection to piglets in high‐, middle‐, and low‐dose sinomenine groups. Piglets were then treated with 1, 5 or 10 mg/kg sinomenine, intramuscularly (i.m.), 3 hr after LPS. Vehicle was administered, as above, to drug control group piglets followed 3 hr later by … Show more

“…Sinomenine. Sinomenine is a kind of benzyl alkaloid commonly found in Chinese herbal medicine that is mainly isolated from the root and stem of Sinomenium acutum [108]. It has a therapeutic application in treating chronic nephritis, rheumatoid arthritis, myocardial ischemia, ankylosing spondylitis, and other rapid arrhythmias and reduces associated foot swelling caused by formaldehyde, egg white, or carrageenan [109].…”

“…Sinomenine is a monomer alkaloid component extracted from Caulis Sinomenii, which belongs to isoquinoline alkaloid. Sinomenine has anti-inflammatory, antirheumatism, antitumor, sedation, antihypertensive, antiarrhythmia, immunosuppression, and other pharmacological effects [9][10][11]. Numerous experiments have shown that sinomenine can inhibit the development of breast cancer, stomach cancer, lung cancer, and ovarian cancer [12][13][14].…”
