Effects of Subinhibitory Concentrations of Moxifloxacin in anIn-VitroDynamic Model

Abstract: The postantibiotic effect (PAE), sub-MIC effect (SME) and postantibiotic sub-MIC effect (PASME) of moxifloxacin were investigated in an in-vitro dynamic model reproducing in-vivo elimination kinetics of the antibiotic. The PAE was induced by exposing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae to 5 x MIC of the antibiotic for 1.5 hours. After induction, cultures were washed to eliminate the antibiotic and resuspended into the dynamic model either in th… Show more

“…In our study we administered moxifloxacin associated with amoxicillin or tinidazole with an excellent eradication rate. Our observations show that moxifloxacin may be a promising alternative to anti‐ H. pylori schemes 27–29 . Moxifloxain based schemes may improve patient's compliance for the low occurrence of side effects, and for the administration of only one pill daily.…”

“…Our observations show that moxifloxacin may be a promising alternative to anti-H. pylori schemes. [27][28][29] Moxifloxain based schemes may improve patient's compliance for the low occurrence of side effects, and for the administration of only one pill daily. In particular, a lower incidence of diarrhoea and taste disturbance was observed in moxifloxacin groups than in clarithromycin groups.…”

“…These preliminary observations indicate that moxifloxacin may be a promising alternative in anti‐ H. pylori schemes 44–46 . Moxifloxacin‐based schemes may allow improved patient compliance with a lower occurrence of side‐effects, and the administration of only one pill daily in mono therapy and two or four pills daily in dual or triple regimens, respectively.…”

“…Inoltre, manifesta un significativo effetto post-antibiotico (PAE) sia nei batteri Gram-positivi sia nei batteri Gram-negativi. L'effetto postantibiotico varia come durata nei vari patogeni da circa 1,5 a 2,5 ore [62,63].…”
