Effects of substitution of Sb for Pd in MnPd3 compound

Abstract: X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, magnetization and magnetic susceptibility of MnPd3–x Sbx are reported. The substitution of Pd by Sb leads to drastic changes both in the crystallographic and electronic structure, with remarkable modifications in the magnetic properties of the investigated samples. “…The increased binding energy of the Pd 3d electrons is an effect of the bonding to Mn and Sb and the magnitude of the shift depends on the Mn and Sb concentration in the vicinity of the ionized Pd atom. This was confirmed by the studies on Mn thin films of different thickness deposited on Pd [17] and also for Mn x Pd 1-x [6] and MnPd 3-x Sb x alloys [18].…”

“…3b is shown the main line of the Mn 2p core level. The main Mn 2p 3/2 line situated at about 639 eV binding energy (BE) shows a shoulder towards lower binding energies, as it would consist of two features that are separated by DE ex ffi 1 eV, which is very close to those observed in MnPd 3Àx Sb x [33] and Heusler alloys [19]. The line-shape analysis shows that the Mn 2p 3/2 spectrum of Ce 2 Co 15 Mn 3 can be interpreted as consisting of exchange-split components.…”
