Effects of Superabsorbent Polymer Addition on the Thermal Properties of Eutectic Phase Change Material

Abstract:In this study, the influence of a super absorbent polymer (SAP) addition on the thermal properties of phase change material (PCM) was investigated. It was found that adding SAP reduced the melting temperature of PCM and improved phase separation properties. While the addition of 1.0 wt% of SAP to PCMs decreased latent heat by 3 J/g to 24.4 J/g, the addition was determined to be necessary to prevent leaks from a functional duct unit (FDU) and assure product stability.
