Effects of Temperature, Pressure, and Metal Promoter on the Recrystallized Structure and Optical Transmission of Chemical Vapor Deposited Zinc Sulfide

Abstract: Structural changes from processing in polytype‐rich zinc sulfide (ZnS) are complex and poorly understood. In this study, recrystallization was induced in chemical vapor deposited ZnS by annealing and hot isostatic pressing (HIPping). Samples were characterized using optical microscopy, SEM, TEM, electron diffraction, polycrystalline and powder X‐ray diffraction, and transmission spectroscopy. Recrystallization was found to reduce the hexagonality and increase the {111} texture of as‐deposited ZnS. Changes in h… Show more

“…In fact, traditional II-VI three-dimension (3D) compounds have important applications in electronics and optoelectronics. For example, ZnO has the potential in blue-light devices [25], and ZnS is an important candidate for transmitting windows in infrared region [26]. In this work, thirty-two 2D honeycomb structures of IIA (or IIB)-VIA compounds are studied by first-principles calculations.…”

“…First, the GeS 2 was shown to be a mix of GeS (orthorhombic Pnma) and GeS 2 (monoclinic P2 1 /c or P12 1 /c1 [47]), therefore the precise Ge/S ratio from this raw material is questionable. The ZnS sample refinement indicated~10% hexagonal ZnS, which is typical for CVD ZnS [2]. The Ga 2 S 3 , CaS, and CdS, were phase-pure.…”

“…The rationale was to target crystalline phases such as La 3.33 Ga 6 S 14 that also has an oxygen-containing variant La 3.33 Ga 6 S 12 O 2 for (1), CaLa 2 S 4 [50] for (2), and ZnGa 2 S 4 [51] for (3).…”

“…As the growth process of CVDZnS is complex, the mechanisms for the chemical reaction and the formation of microstructures and defects remain unclear [3,[5][6][7][8][9][10].…”
