“…Interestingly, younger athletes and those involved in individual sports often increased their sporting activities during the lockdown, thereby improving their fitness levels compared with those who were less active or inactive [ 2 , 3 , 8 , 21 , 22 ]. As was found in the general population, many studies described an increased prevalence of depression, anxiety, and stress as a result of the pandemic on athlete populations [ 20 , 21 ]. Despite these rates being lower than expected and some studies pointing out the capacity of the athletes to deal with stress and adverse events [ 20 ], it has also been found that athletes with high athletic identity could experience higher levels of anxiety and depression especially when they were unable to participate in their respective sports [ 22 ].…”

“…Since the COVID-19 outbreak, several countries have imposed restrictions including the closure of sports centers, therefore many aspects of everyday routine have changed, and this influenced both physical and mental health in different populations ( Carnevale Pellino et al, 2022 ; Gatti et al, 2022 ; Hallal et al, 2012 ; Robinson et al, 2021 ; Tornaghi et al, 2021 ). Several studies showed a reduction in the PA level and increased unhealthy dietary habits, which increase fat mass accumulation and the risk to develop OB.…”
