Design and evaluation considerations are discussed for the structural optimization of 1.3μπι zero-dispersion single-mode fibers for use in the 1.55 μπι wavelength regions. Optimum fiber parameters range of the mode field diameter, 2W 1 _ 55(im and the effective cutoff wavelength λ,.,, are determined as 2Wj 55μπ> = 10.5 ±1.0 μπι and 1.35μηι< X ce < 1.60 um, respectively. The averaged fiber loss and chromatic dispersions of 0.185 dB/km and 18.7ps/km-nm have been achieved. Also the effects of the various external stress on the transmission loss and the chromatic dispersion characteristics of the 1.55μιη loss minimized optical fiber submarine cables are discussed.
